Adult men and women in Korea reduced alcohol and increased cigarettes

The results of a study on how the lifestyles of adults in Korea have changed these days, when social activities have declined due to corona, were released on the 9th.

Yonsei University’s Graduate School of Health Prof. Seonha Ji’s team targeted 768 men and 732 women between the ages of 20 and 65 from September to October last year, before and after the Corona 19 Pandemic An online survey was conducted on changes in health behavior such as smoking, drinking and physical activity.

Among the respondents, 46.1% of the respondents smoked, and 9.7% of the females smoked. The average daily smoking amount increased slightly from 11.6 before the outbreak to 11.9 after the outbreak. However, 79 respondents who responded that the amount of smoking has changed due to Corona 19 significantly increased from 9.3 to 11.2 per day.

A survey on drinking showed that 75.4% of men and 63.8% of women drink alcohol. In both men and women, the frequency and amount of alcohol consumed decreased. The monthly drinking frequency decreased significantly from 5.9 times before the corona epidemic to 5.4 times after the epidemic.

In the case of physical activity, males showed no change (58.3%), decrease (21.7%), and increase (19.9%) in the analysis of average daily exercise. Women also showed no change (42.7%), decrease (29.1%), and increase (28.2%).

Professor Ji, who led the study, said, “This result is meaningful as a necessary basis for the development of health policies necessary for our people in the corona pandemic situation.” It will be helpful in establishing a national response strategy to improve health levels.”
