Britney Higgins poses in front of the Australian Parliament House-Higgins Twitter capture |
The New York Times (NYT) of the United States reported on the 15th (local time) that a rape incident occurred in the Australian Parliament House and the whole of Australia was overturned.
Britney Higgins, 26, a former public official, was raped at the Australian Parliament House, and accusations are pouring out on the Prime Minister as the ruling Liberal Party is revealed to cover the case, NYT said.
He was sleeping on the couch in the defense minister’s office after drinking with his colleagues two years ago. He was serving as a media officer for the defense secretary.
But while he was asleep, a man approached him and raped him, and he said he did not stop doing it, even though he clearly expressed his objection. He was silent about the identity of the perpetrator. He just said, “The rising star of the Liberal Party.”
The problem didn’t stop there. The Liberal Party put pressure on him to clear the case.
He reported it to the police, but after a while canceled it. This is because pressure was put on the ruling party to keep things quiet. He is known to have canceled his report to the police because he was likely to lose his job if he went to the police station.
As this became known, Prime Minister Scott Morrison reached the point of official apology.
He raised the issue belatedly because he recently quit his post as a media chief of defense. He is known to have revealed the truth of the incident lately, thinking that he should reveal the truth even if he loses his job due to a recent change of heart.
This is an anecdote that shows that sexual assault by men is still being carried out openly everywhere, even in the’Me Too movement’ that is unfolding around the world, NYT pointed out.
