More than 400 inmates escaped from a prison in Haiti in the Caribbean. In the process, 25 people, including the prison warden, were killed.

According to AFP news agency on the 26th (local time), Haitian authorities said that more than 400 inmates were collectively escaped from a prison outside the capital Port-au-Prince.

In the process, 25 people, including six people imprisoned in prison, and the prison director were killed. Haitian officials said that ordinary citizens were also included in the deaths due to the shooting of prisoners. Civilians near the prison told foreign media that they were asked for money and goods from prisoners who had escaped prisoners and had no choice but to hand them over.

One of the inmates who died was Arnel Joseph, the leader of the gang. He was imprisoned on charges of murder, etc., and escaped on a motorcycle after he succeeded in jailbreaking. Then he was caught at a checkpoint, engaged in a fight with the police, and was shot.

The exact motive or process of the group breakout is unknown. However, some are suspicious of what happened to Joseph’s escape. Joseph had previously attempted and jailed several times.

The prison, which was established in 2012 with funding from Canada, had more than 300 jailbreaks once in 2014.
