[아시아경제 김봉주 기자] A Chinese real estate developer, who advertised an apartment floor plan on a female model’s body, faced a headwind of stopping real estate development.

On the 26th, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported at an apartment briefing session held last week in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China, that a real estate developer mobilized two female models to engage in promotional activities.

The apartment plans were drawn on the backs of the two models in dresses with deep backs. Those who attended the briefing took a picture of the model’s back and took a commemorative photo with the model.

After that, a netizen who attended this event posted a video of the scene on Weibo, causing a stir.

Chinese netizens who watched the video responded with “Why should a woman’s back be used as an apartment floor plan?” One netizen mocked, “It seems that the background of this advertisement is that a woman’s back is cheaper than paper.”

China’s state-run media, Guangming Daily, also released criticism about the commercialization of women. As the controversy spread, the authorities of the Shanxi Province eventually stopped holding the briefing sessions and stopped the development project itself. SCMP contacted the company and the exhibition hall, but was not connected.

Meanwhile, similar cases have occurred in the past. In 2018, a real estate developer in Nanning, Guangxi Autonomous Region, also drew a floor plan on the female model of Banla to promote new development.

At a real estate exhibition held in Lijiao, Shandong Province in 2015, another company attempted to attract buyers in the same way, allowing visitors to see the process of painting.
