It is known that a couple from Vietnam who was passing by a road in Onsan-eup, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, discovered a fire in a hillside and extinguished it by pouring water with a bucket.

According to the fire department headquarters on the 21st, Lee Yoon-ah (female, 31) and Vietnamese husband Nguyen Phuoc (34), who lived in Ulsan after naturalizing from Vietnam to Korea in 2014 on the afternoon of the 9th, before the Lunar New Year holiday, are using their own car. While returning home together, I noticed flames and smoke rising from the side of the road.

The couple stopped the car on the shoulder immediately, reported a fire to 119, and then extinguished the fire by carrying water several times with a rubber bucket and bucket found around them.

After a while, even after the fire brigade of the Onsan Fire Station arrived at the site, the couple guided the firefighters from the site to the fire spot and even helped the firefighters clear up the fire.

If these couples did not detect the fire early or just passed it, there was a high risk that it would spread to nearby hills and residential areas, leading to a major fire.

Accordingly, the Onsan Fire Department is planning to award a plaque of appreciation to the Lee couple who showed their dedicated fire suppression activities in March.

Mr. Lee said, “As a Korean citizen, I have done the natural thing and will do the same even if I face a similar situation next time.”

A firefighter official said, “Thank you for being able to prevent large-scale fires with the quick response of these couples,” and said, “We will continue to operate various firefighting safety training courses tailored to the level of foreigners to eliminate safety blind spots.”

Meanwhile, the Fire Department is producing and distributing fire safety education textbooks for foreigners in six languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Russian, and is also using videos such as cartoons as educational materials for foreign children.
