‘A career-high at 38?’ KT Kim Young-Hwan “Thanks for good surgery and rehabilitation” [MD인터뷰]

[마이데일리 = 잠실학생체 최창환 기자] The firepower of Busan KT captain Kim Young-hwan is unusual. Next year, I’m 38 in Korean age, and I’m ready to write a new career-high.

Kim Young-hwan played an active part in the 2020-2021 Hyundai Mobis professional basketball regular league away game against Seoul SK held at the Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Seoul on the 27th, with 20 points, 3 points, 4 shots and 4 rebounds. KT won a 91-86 reversal by adding a double double of Brandon Brown (20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists) and Yang Hong-seok (15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists). KT won 2 consecutive wins and escaped from 4 consecutive wins against SK.

KT finished the third quarter with 67-80, but directed a reversal victory ahead of the back-hearted fight. Kim Young-hwan also contributed his strength by scoring 5 points including 1 3-point shot in the fourth quarter. In addition, Kim Young-hwan held the center of KT on and off the court by playing the most 37 minutes 52 seconds in both teams.

After the end of the game, Kim Young-hwan said, “Recently, the game (25th vs. KGC Ginseng) was canceled, and it was difficult to maintain condition. So, I wasn’t in good shape at the beginning of the game, but I finished well. I am happy to continue winning streak. SK’s shooting condition was so good that I was embarrassed, but it is not easy to maintain that condition until the fourth quarter. (Reverse) I thought an opportunity would come.”

As a captain, I did not forget a word to my colleagues. Kim Young-hwan said, “If you get 10 points ahead in the beginning, you have to focus more, but as players are young, they tend to get excited. They are more greedy of attack than defense. I have to throw (shoot) at the chance, but I throw it because it is too much Even if you are losing, you have to keep your performance steady. As a senior, I think I have to catch this part.”

In 23 games this season, Kim Young-hwan recorded 13 points, three points, two 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists for an average of 33 minutes and 10 seconds. This is the highest score since returning to KT from Changwon LG through a trade. It is also a career-high pace. The previous record was also an average of 13 points (2012-2013 season). “It seems that having undergone surgery to remove bone fragments during the off-season and thoroughly self-management, including rehabilitation, led to good performance,” said Seo Dong-cheol.

Kim Young-hwan said, “I suffered 3-4 years because of the bone fragments on my ankle. I think rehabilitation is better than surgery because I am older, so I have been playing the season with rehabilitation. However, last season ended prematurely due to Corona 19, and it seemed difficult to continue running with injuries. So I had surgery quickly, and rehabilitation was good. Thanks to this, there were no restrictions on weight training and physical training. So I was able to make my body well.”

Brandon Brown, a proven foreign player, is also helping. Kim Young-hwan, who lost his luck as a “smart friend,” said, “I try to see the chances of other players, and’I want you to move like this.’ His personality is so active that he is adapting well to the team. That’s why the organizational power seems to get better and better.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with a non-seasonal press, Kim Young-hwan stated his goal, “I want to be the longest player among my motives.” Jung Young-sam, who was a franchise star of Incheon E-Land and a motive for joining the company, recently left a comment saying, “I want to run longer than (Kim) Young-hwan”.

When Kim Young-hwan said about this, he said, “I would have kept the goal in mind. I want all of my motives to run long. They are the players I’ve seen since elementary school, and they know how hard they have been to play. Everyone knows that as they are old, there are less than a few years left. They are running while being stimulated by each other. I hope to see you for a long time. I want to retire on the same day.”
