The’Sha’ sculpture, a symbol of Seoul National University, comes closer to the students. This is while Seoul National University is promoting a project to build a plaza containing this sculpture until August.
Planning Director Kang Joon-ho said on the 26th, “We have planned this with the aim of building an eco-friendly campus and’publicity’ of Seoul National University emphasized by President Oh Se-jung. The purpose of the new maintenance centered on pedestrians,” he explained.
The project has entered the implementation phase. On the 12th, the Seoul Police Agency approved the road change plan and is currently in the process of bidding for a design contest for the plaza.
This sculpture, commonly referred to as’sha’, is the symbol and front gate of Seoul National University, which combines the first consonants of’Seoul National University’. However, it was too far to be close even before my eyes. It was not easy to take a picture with the background of’Sha’ as it was connected to the street outside the university, and it was a four lane round trip under the sculpture.
Lee Bum-hyun, 26, from Seoul National University’s College of Education said that the dizzying memories of taking commemorative photos at the entrance ceremony in front of the sculpture of Shah in 2015 still remain. Buses and cars are constantly passing under the sculpture, so after waiting a long time with my parents, I ran over the center line of the road and took a picture. At that moment, a car and a bus stopped in front of the Lee family. Lee said, “I was in a hurry because the cars were waiting. I always felt it was dangerous because the space where I wanted to take a picture was on the road.”

According to the’Seoul National University Main Gate Environment Improvement Project’ being promoted by Seoul National University, a car bypass will be built next to the main gate (sha sculpture) and a square containing the’sha’ sculpture will be created. The plan is to leave the existing structure intact and expand the current pedestrian path so that people can walk under the main gate.
Seoul National University held an idea contest for all members of the university in July of last year to collect opinions. Kim Ji-eun (23), an engineering student who goes to class by bus, said, “There are always a lot of people taking pictures at the front door, so I was worried about an accident.” I am looking forward to the same,” he said.
Jeong Mo (28), a graduate of the Department of Freedom Major at Seoul National University, said, “Everyone was waiting at the center line to take pictures at the graduation ceremony, and I have memories of passing cars on both sides.” He said, “It seems that there was a symbolism of the car entering the front door, but it seems a little awkward to think that the place in the memory will change,” he said.
