The wallet, which was lost in Antarctica, returned to its owner after 53 years.

According to the Associated Press on the 6th (local time), Paul Gresham, who lives in San Diego, California, USA, recently received a wallet that he lost at an Antarctic Research Base 53 years ago by mail. Grisham was dispatched to an Antarctic base in 1967 as a US naval meteorologist and worked for 13 months. He was the head of his 30s with two children at the time, and he was a 91-year-old man.

In the wallet, which returned in 53, there was a naval ID card, driver’s license, instruction card containing instructions for responding to an attack in a chemical room, beer ration card, tax withholding statement, and money order receipt sent to his wife.

The wallet was found behind a locker during a demolition work at McMurdo Base in Los Island, Antarctica in 2014. Site officials kept the wallet and sent it to Stephen Decato, who worked with him in the past. It was after the news that Dikato returned the naval identification bracelet to its owner with the help of a non-profit organization supporting veterans. Dikato again contacted the non-profit organization, and an official from the group sought Gresham through the Naval Meteorological Association. Another wallet, found along with Grisham’s wallet, was also returned to the owner’s family, who died in 2016.

Gresham expressed his gratitude to everyone who tried to find the owner of the wallet, saying, “I was surprised to receive the wallet.”
