Hyundai Motor (005380)It was found that last year, the largest number of hydrogen fueled cell vehicles were sold in the world. Hyundai Motor’s market share in the global hydrogen car market is 69.0%, indicating that 7 out of 10 hydrogen cars sold last year were Hyundai.

According to SNE Research, an energy market research firm on the 17th, Hyundai’s hydrogen car Nexo sold 6,500 units last year. Compared to 2019, when 4800 units were sold, sales volume increased by 35.3%.

However, last year’s global hydrogen car sales amounted to 9,000 units, down 11.3% from the previous year. It is analyzed that the sales volume of Toyota Mirai and Honda Clarity decreased significantly due to the deterioration of models, and China’s policy of reducing subsidies, which is the second largest market in the world, caused the market to contract.

Toyota sold 1,600 units last year, down 33.2% from the previous year, and Honda’s hydrogen car sales decreased by 33.8% to just 200 units. However, when Toyota launched a new Mirai 2nd generation model in Japan, sales showed a rebound.

SNE Research predicts that Toyota’s 2nd generation Mirai will be launched one after another in the United States and other countries this year, competing in earnest with Hyundai Motor Company. In addition, as the market size, which was slightly smaller than the previous year, rebounded, it predicted that annual global hydrogen car sales would again exceed 10,000 units, reaching a record high.
