In Japan,’Ijime (bullying)’ about confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) has emerged as a social issue, and a result of a public opinion poll has come out.
The Asahi Shimbun announced on the 10th the results of a poll conducted on 3,000 voters across Japan from November to December last year. In a poll survey, 67% of all responded to the question,’Are you more concerned about your gaze at your surroundings and workplace than about your health if you are infected with Corona 19?’ On the other hand, only 32%, 23% and 9%, said’Not very much’ and’Not at all’. About 7 out of 10 Japanese people responded more sensitively to their surrounding gaze than to the fact that they were infected with Corona 19.
When asked, “Is it natural to be criticized if you are infected with Corona 19 after going out even though the government asks you to refrain from going out?” Occupied.
Respondents answered’Yes’ to the question of’wearing a mask more conscious of the surrounding gaze rather than countermeasures against infection’. Among the younger people in their 30s or younger, 40% answered the same question positively, indicating that they care about their surroundings even when wearing a mask.
Particularly, there was a great concern about’Corona 19 Ijime’ in the socially active generation and in the family with children. 74% and 75% of respondents said that those under 50 and with children under 18 were more concerned about their gaze. 60% of those over 60 were.
Regarding the possibility of becoming a severe patient after infection, 87% said they felt’very’ or’somewhat’ anxiety. Among them, 66% of respondents chose’worry about their surroundings rather than their health’.
Asahi Shimbun analyzed that “the reason Japanese people are more concerned about their surrounding gaze than their own health is because of social glare poured out on infected people.”
The previous day, there were 7790 new confirmed cases of Corona 19 in Japan, which continued to be around 7,000 for three consecutive days. The death toll also increased by 1000 in 18 days to 4035.
