According to the judgment of the court that sentenced Dongyang University professor Chung Gyeong-shim to four years in prison, the wife of the former Minister of Justice Cho Kook, 6 out of 10 citizens thought it was a reasonable decision. On the other side, a public petition for impeachment of the judges in the first trial court of Professor Jeong was rapidly increasing the number of consents, and public opinion was divided.
The Korea Institute of Social Opinion (KSOI) surveyed 1006 adults across the country on the 26th, and the result of the public opinion poll released on the 28th, admitted to Professor Jeong’s obstruction of work, forgery of private documents, irregularities in the entrance examination, and a four-year imprisonment and a fine of 500 million won. 60.5% of the respondents said that it is’appropriate’ to the judgment of the first trial court that sentenced him 35.8% of respondents said they were very reasonable, and 24.7% said they were somewhat reasonable.
Only 32.2% answered that it was unfair. 18.4% said they were very unfair and 13.8% said they were somewhat unfair. Among the supporters of the people’s strength, 90.5% of the opinions that the judgment is valid were found. In the conservative class, it was estimated at 77.2%. Even in the middle class, 63.9% of respondents were found to have expressed their opinion that it is reasonable.
However, on the 23rd, the day the court sentenced Professor Chung was issued, a national petition titled’I request the impeachment of the court of the first trial court of the Jeonggyeongshim’ registered on the Blue House National Petition Bulletin received more than 400,000 consents in five days. As of 12:30 pm, 4,05556 people agreed. On the 24th, the day after registration, this petition has already obtained more than 200,000 consents based on the Blue House response.
Petitioner appointed the first judges of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Agreement 25-2, Jung-yeop Lim, Seongsu Kwon, and Seon-hee Kim, who were the first judges of Professor Jeong, and said, “I urge the National Assembly representing the people to initiate an impeachment prosecution.” It is because the three judges severely violate Article 103 of the Constitution, which requires judgment according to conscience.” The petitioner said, “If you make a judgment with only the investigation documents submitted by the prosecution, this is an act that abandons the conscience of the judge and is contrary to the constitution.”
