5G service, speed is SKT, coverage is LGU + multi-facility is KT

As a result of 5G quality evaluation, it was found that SK Telecom has the fastest speed and the widest coverage of LG U+.

However, the average download rate for 5G services of the three mobile communication companies was 690.47Mbps, which was 33.91Mbps improved compared to the first half (656.56Mbps).

In the case of subways that users use the most when commuting to work, base stations in the non-metropolitan area (Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan) were completed, but the average number of subways in the metropolitan area was 233 (50.9% of the total 458), accounting for only half.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and ICT and the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency conducted a communication service coverage check and quality evaluation in 2020 to provide users with information on the coverage and quality of wired and wireless communication services and to promote the expansion of network investments for communication companies. It was revealed on the 30th that it appeared like this.

This evaluation targets ▲Wireless Internet (5G∙LTE∙3G∙Wi-Fi), ▲Wired Internet (100Mbps, 500Mbps, 1Gbps) ▲Mobile video service.

However, in the case of 5G service, the target area was expanded from Seoul and 6 metropolitan cities in the first half of the first half of the 5G evaluation to 85 cities nationwide in order to accelerate coverage and quality improvement.

This year’s telecommunication service coverage check and quality evaluation take into account the characteristics of each service ▲Check the communication service coverage (available area) ▲Measure the quality of communication service ▲A constant user evaluation in which the user directly measures the communication quality with their own terminal ▲A self-evaluation method by the operator Proceeded to.

In particular, in the case of 5G services, information on the 5G service coverage and the status of 5G deployment of major facilities was disclosed, as to what level of 5G can be used in 85 cities, considering that the nationwide network is being built by 2022.

■ 5G coverage is the widest LG U+

First, according to the result of checking the coverage map of 3 mobile communication companies for 5G service, it was found that Seoul Metropolitan Government provided 5G service in an area of about 478.17㎢ on average for the 3 companies and about 1,417.97㎢ in 6 metropolitan cities.

Excluding forest fields, 5G can be used in a significant part of major areas, and 78 small and medium-sized cities provide 5G services in an area of about 3,513.16㎢.

The coverage areas of 85 cities were ▲LG U+ 6,64.28㎢ ▲SK Telecom 5,242.68㎢, ▲KT 4,920.97㎢ (as of December this year).

The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that it was confirmed that the coverage information disclosed by the telecommunications company was not over-displayed as a result of the sample inspection.

■ The number of multi-use facilities 5G available, KT is the most

In the case of major multi-use facilities, 2,792 facilities that can use 5G out of a total of 4,516 major multi-use facilities in 85 cities (as of November, 61.8%), allowing stable access to 5G services within the facility. The area ratio (the ratio of the indoor accessible area) was 90.99%, higher than the first half (67.93%).

The total number of facilities that can use 5G services, including 694 other facilities such as business facilities and religious facilities, excluding major multi-use facilities and 5G priority construction targets, was 3,486 on average.

The total number of facilities that can use 5G was ▲KT 4,571 ▲SK Telecom 3,814 ▲LG U+ 2,72 by communication company.

■ 50% of metropolitan subway construction rate

In the case of subways among transportation infrastructure, 5G services are available for a total of 424 underground stations (65.3% of 649), an increase of 35.5% compared to the first half (313). ▲Metropolitan subways were built on an average of 233 (50.9% of the total 458) 5G, and non-capital subways (Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan) were completed.

The terrestrial station is not included in the number of construction targets as services are provided based on outdoor base stations.

In the case of 20 lines of major highways with heavy traffic, three companies out of 102 sections were constructed in 72 sections (about 70.6%) on average, and the number of sections by operator is ▲KT 78 ▲LG U+ 75 ▲SK Telecom 63 Level.

A total of 20 routes (Korea Expressway Corporation) with heavy traffic, including the Gyeongbu Line, West Coast Line, Yeongdong Line, and Jungang Line, were inspected, and this is the result of dividing these lines into 102 sections.

In the case of high-speed rail (KTX‧SRT), an average of 52 stations (54 stations in total), and 46 stations (55 stations in total) between stations, and the number of stations built by carrier is ▲KT 54 ▲LG 53 U+ ▲ 48 SK Telecom.

■ 5G speed SK Telecom is the fastest

The average download rate for 5G service of the three mobile communication companies has improved to 690.47Mbps, which is 33.91Mbps compared to the first half (656.56Mbps), and the average upload rate is 63.32Mbps.

The download speed by carrier was ▲SK Telecom 795.57Mbps (6.60Mbps↑ compared to the first half) ▲KT 667.48Mbps (15.38Mbps↑ compared to the first half) ▲LG U+ 608.49Mbps (79.89Mbps↑ compared to the first half).

The upload speed was 69.96Mbps for SK Telecom, 60.01Mbps for KT, and 59.99Mbps for LG U+.

As a result of the regular evaluation of 5G users, the average 5G download speed of the three mobile operators is 616.94Mbps (upload 56.07Mbps), and when only the same model as the government-evaluated terminal is reflected, it is 677.90Mbps (upload 65.87Mbps), similar to the government evaluation result.

The rate of conversion to LTE while using 5G services within 5G coverage was an average of 5.49% when downloaded (6.19% in the first half) and 5.29% when uploaded (6.29% in the first half).

By carrier, when downloading, SK Telecom 3.95%, LG Uplus 4.29%, and KT 8.22%.

When I verified the government 5G quality evaluation separately…

[김태진의 Newtro] Why did 5G quality evaluation?

I measured the 5G speed by dividing the operator and facility…

“We are building a 5G nationwide network by 2022. We are conducting quality evaluation twice a year for the first time this year for 5G, and we are trying to expand coverage and improve quality by promoting competitive investment by telecommunications companies.” In order to enjoy the service, we will conduct continuous quality evaluation for not only 5G, but also LTE and Wi-Fi to induce autonomous quality improvement of telecommunication companies.”

The quality evaluation results will be posted on Smart Choice (www.smartchoice.or.kr) and public data portal (www.data.go.kr) early next year.
