458 new confirmed cases… quarantine authorities “concerned about further spread”

The quarantine authorities said they are concerned about the further spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in Korea. On this day, there were 400 new cases for three consecutive days.

Jeon Jeon-cheol, the second deputy head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Minister of Public Administration and Security) said, “The trend of new corona confirmed patients, which has been stable for a while, is about 400 due to the outbreak of group infection at the Daejeon IM Mission. He said, “I am concerned about further spread.”

As of 0 o’clock on the day, the number of new confirmed cases increased by 458 to a cumulative record of 77,850. Local outbreaks are 423 and foreign inflows are 35. This is due to a series of large and small group outbreaks in various places such as Hanyang University Hospital in Seoul, while the aftermath of group infection from IM Mission continues. During the last week (23 to 29 days), the number of new confirmed cases per day was 431 → 392 → 437 → 349 → 559 → 497 → 469, with an average of 448 daily occurrences.

The quarantine authorities are concerned about the spread of the Lunar New Year holidays while the situation is seldom getting better. Deputy General Manager Jeon explained, “We are reviewing the change of social distancing stage more carefully than ever in consideration of the recent new corona situation, which is increasing uncertainty.”

He continued, “I will make a decision on phasing in consideration of various opinions from the field including experts, but I will fully explain to the public about the matters decided to avoid confusion at the time of the holiday.”
