The Central Accident Control Headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced the results of the selection of the 3rd contest for clinical support for COVID-19 treatment and vaccine.
To support the development of COVID-19 treatments and vaccines, the National New Drug Development Project Team) is conspiring for clinical support projects on a bi-monthly basis.
As a result of the 3rd project contest, 10 projects were submitted (treatment 8, vaccine 2), and the final 4 tasks (treatment 2, vaccine 2) were selected.
Celltrion antibody therapy and Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s drug re-creation were selected as treatments. Celltrion antibody therapy is phase 3, and Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s drug re-creation is phase 2 and 3. In particular, the project team selected, evaluated and confirmed the project for Celltrion antibody treatment based on the company’s project application details and simultaneous approval for phase 2 and 3 clinical trials (‘20.9.17).
Vaccines include Celid virus carriers and Ubiologics synthetic antigens.
The government increased its budget by 48% from 94 billion won in 2020 to 138.8 billion won in 2021 to support the development of therapeutics and vaccines until the completion of the development of treatments and vaccines, and plans to open new projects every other month for continuous discovery.
Including the 3rd competition, the government support for COVID-19 treatment and vaccine clinical trials is KRW 36.4 billion for five vaccine projects and KRW 84.4 billion for five treatment projects.
The government is providing all-weather support not only for budget but also for rapid development.
The National Infectious Disease Clinical Trial Center is operated (‘20.9~) to support rapid recruitment of subjects and joint IRB operation, and a consortium of base hospitals and infectious diseases dedicated hospitals is formed to support active clinical trials.
In addition, a clinical trial support TF consisting of related ministries (Ministry of Welfare, Disease Administration, Food and Drug Administration), private experts, etc., is operated (held 15 times) to improve business difficulties at all times and immediately. Difficulties were received and supported through installation, regular and in-depth consultation.
