“30% lowered” SK Telecom reports a 5G mid-to-low price plan in the range of KRW 30,000

[아시아경제 조슬기나 기자] SK Telecom reported a 5G mid-to-low price plan in the range of 30,000 won, which is 30% cheaper than the previous one. This is the first case of application of the reservation system applied after the abolition of the rate authorization system. Following SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus also fiddled with the rate card, and 5G rate cuts, which have been followed by user complaints, are expected to accelerate.

According to SK Telecom on the 29th, the company reported 6 types of 5G·LTE products with an untact plan (tentative name) to the Ministry of Science and Technology Information and Communication. The Untact plan is for online use only, not for offline stores. In this process, it is characterized by lowering the price of the plan instead of reducing marketing costs. An official from SK Telecom said, “We have submitted a report on the launch of a new rate plan to enhance customer value, such as easing customer rate burden and expanding rate plan options.”

First, the 5G plan provides 9GB of data for 38,500 won per month, 200GB of data for 52,500 won per month, and unlimited data for 60,000 won per month. Considering that the 5G minimum rate based on the existing 9GB is 55,000 won, it is about 30% cheaper. In the case of the LTE plan, it costs 2GB for 20,000 won per month, 5GB for 30,000 won per month, and 120GB for 40,000 won per month.

The rate system reported by SK Telecom on this day is the first case since the introduction of the reservation system due to the abolition of the rate authorization system. It is also due to a request for the launch of an inexpensive online plan with reduced marketing costs in the National Assembly’s audit of the government.

It is predicted that the 5G low-cost rate plan will accelerate in the future as the market dominant service provider can launch a new rate plan in earnest once it is reported. KT and LG Uplus are also reviewing the online plan according to the demands of the politicians.

However, the Ministry of Science and ICT may review the rate plan for 15 days after reporting and reject it if there is a problem. In the process of prior consultation, the Ministry of Science and ICT was known to have put a brake on SK Telecom’s untact rate plan for reasons such as rate plan intervals and concerns over low-cost phone tests.
