According to the Avian Influenza Central Accident Control Headquarters (heavy water version) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock, on the 26th of last month, after a highly pathogenic AI occurred in two years and eight months at a meat duck farm in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do, 27 domestic poultry farms and one experience farm were held. By breeding, the incidence was high in ducks (15 cases) and laying hens (7 cases), while ducks occurred mainly in Jeonnam (7 cases), Jeonbuk (5 cases), and laying hens in Gyeonggi (5 cases).

In addition, an H5 type antigen, which has a high risk of pathogenicity, was detected at one of the meat duck farms in Gurye, Jeollanam-do, and a close examination is in progress.

The area of ​​occurrence is also extensive.

Starting from Jeongeup, Gyeongbuk Sangju, Jeonnam Yeongam, Gyeonggi Yeoju, Chungbuk Eumseong, Jeonnam Naju, Jeonnam Jangseong, Gimpo Gyeonggi, Jeonbuk Imsil, Gyeongbuk Gumi, Gyeonggi Hwaseong, Jeonbuk Gochang, Gyeonggi Yongin, Jeonbuk Namwon, Gurye, and Chungnam Cheonan. It is not a situation to rest assured that AI is still occurring in the unoccurred areas nationwide simultaneously, and highly pathogenic AI has also been confirmed in the wild birds of Hadori, Gangwon, Junam Reservoir in Changwon, Gyeongnam, Jwagonri, Gimhae, and Eulsukdo, Busan.

This year, unlike 2016-2017, which occurred intensively in poultry farms in specific cities and counties, it is sporadic across the country, and the case of horizontal transmission between farms has not yet been confirmed.

In this regard, the heavy water supply was evaluated as a result of detecting farms that occurred early through a reinforced inspection and forecasting system, and implementing preventive killings for poultry within a 3 km radius.

The government issued an order to suspend the nationwide temporary movement of AI for 24 hours starting from 0 o’clock on this day to prevent the spread of AI across the country. This is the second measure after a 48-hour national temporary suspension order was issued on the last 12 to 13 days.

Due to the rapid increase in the number of killings caused by AI, and the drop in orders for temporary suspension of movement at a national level or by region of occurrence, prices of chickens, ducks and eggs are gradually rising.

As of 4 pm on the 24th, the price of the duck producing area was 2,105 won per kg, which was 45.3% higher than the previous month, before highly pathogenic AI occurred in domestic poultry farms.

Excluding ducks, other poultry, which had maintained a relatively stable price, gradually began to rise.

Broiler production prices rose 6.1% from the previous month to 1,384 won per kg, and egg production and consumer prices rose 7.6% and 2.5% to 1,226 won and 1,899 won for 10 special eggs, respectively.

The consumer price of broilers alone fell 3.6% to 5,31 won per kg. It was found that this was affected by discount events at large supermarkets.

However, the government said the supply and demand and price trends were closely monitored to prevent market instability, considering that the supply capacity was still satisfactory considering the number of poultry breeding and the inventory of major retailers.
