[세종=이데일리 이명철 기자] Ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays this year, the related sales increased significantly as the limit on the value of futures for agricultural and livestock products under the so-called’Kim Young-ran Act (Prohibition of Solicitation)’ was temporarily raised.

Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Kim Hyun-soo attended the general meeting of the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, Marine and Fisheries Committee held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on the 16th. This is an increase of about 27% compared to last year.”

According to the report data submitted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food to the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Affairs on this day, sales of agri-food gifts 1-6 weeks before the end of this year’s Lunar New Year’s Day on the 14th were 4562 billion won, a 27.3% increase from the same period last year (358.3 billion won).

This is the result of a survey of 12 companies, including 2 major department stores, 5 hypermarkets, and 5 home shopping and online malls.

At a State Council meeting on the 19th of last month, the government raised the limit on futures prices for agricultural and livestock products and processed products from January 19 to February 14 from 100,000 won to 200,000 won under the Solicitation Prohibition Act. This is a measure in response to the difficulty of securing a market for seafarers due to the contraction of eating out due to Corona 19, and the quarantine authorities recommended refraining from visiting their hometown during the Lunar New Year holidays.

Futures sales of agricultural and livestock products were 337.6 billion won, and processed products such as red ginseng were 118.6 billion won, up 27.4% and 27.0% respectively from the previous year.

Among agricultural and marine products, livestock products sold 101.1 billion won, an increase of 29.5%. It also recorded futures sales of 94.9 billion won (28.6%) for fruits, 80.9 billion won (29.5%) for fisheries, and 60.6 billion won (20.1%) for agricultural and livestock products such as ginseng and mushrooms.

Looking at the sales by price range of gift sets, the 50,000~100,000 won range increased 54.5%, the 100,000~200,000 won range increased 23.7%, and 27.8% over 200,000 won, respectively.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Foods analyzed that sales increased mainly from fruits such as apples, grapes (shine muscat) and mangam (Hallabong), livestock products such as roasting Korean beef, and high-end gifts such as red ginseng and health foods.
