[세종타임즈] The Ministry of Science and Technology Information and Communication announced on February 9 that it had started activities for about a year with the inauguration ceremony of the’public-private joint carbon neutral technology planning committee’ to select key technologies for realizing carbon neutrality in 2050 and establish a technology roadmap.
The Carbon Neutral Technology Planning Committee was co-chaired by Sungsoo Kim, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Chem, and Sungsoo Yoo Yoo, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Chem, to discover innovative technologies and strengthen cooperation between the government and the private sector. A total of 22 people participate as members.
Under the Planning Committee, the Energy, Industry, Transport and Transportation, Urban Land, ICT, and Environment Subcommittees were formed in February with 10 industry, academia, and research experts to support the implementation of the long-term carbon neutral development strategy by sector. He said he plans to professionally pursue technology discovery, analysis and roadmap creation.
In addition, he said that it plans to operate a separate carbon-neutral business council led by the Industrial Technology Promotion Association in order to gather broad opinions from the industry as a whole.
The Planning Committee will focus on discovering and selecting key technologies that will contribute to carbon neutrality by the first half of this year, and plans to announce a carbon neutral technology roadmap by the end of the year.
The technology roadmap is expected to serve as a foundation for long-term and systematic support at the national level for the development of innovative technologies and field application in order to realize the 2050 carbon neutrality target of the Korean government.
The inauguration ceremony of the Planning Committee was held in the presence of 21 people, including co-chairpersons and planning committee members, and shared the 2050 carbon neutral development strategy, and discussed plans for selecting key technologies and establishing technology roadmaps.
Co-Chairman Yoo Ji-young said, “Since the transition to a sustainable future through 2050 carbon neutrality is an obligation for all of us and a corporate social responsibility, we will build the foundation for public-private cooperation to discover core technologies.”
Director of Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters Kim Seong-soo added, “Based on the successful experience of fostering materials, parts, and equipment, we will actively cooperate with the public and private sectors to create a blueprint to support the realization of carbon neutrality in 2050 with science and technology.”
