The government and local governments will invest 2.9 billion won in this year’s budget to carry out a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) container facility improvement project for 14,000 households nationwide.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 31st that it will expand the business of replacing LPG hoses used in general houses with safe metal pipes with local governments across the country.

The project support target was limited to some underprivileged groups such as basic living recipients and the second-class class until last year. Starting this year, support will be given to all households using LPG hoses in areas where city gas is not supplied, such as farming and fishing villages.

In this regard, the Ministry of Industry is planning to announce the’how to operate the LPG container-use furniture facility improvement business’ on the 1st of next month.

General households wishing to improve facilities can participate in the project on the condition of paying 20% of their own expenses (about 50,000 won). Applications can be made at each city/gun/gu gas department or the regional headquarters/branch of the Korea Gas Safety Corporation. Separate project guidance will be provided when a facility improvement business is selected for each local government between next month and April.

From this year to 2030, the government and local governments plan to reinforce energy safety and welfare by performing facility improvements such as replacement of metal pipes and installation of safety devices for approximately 410,000 households using LPG hoses.
