Son Heung-min (29, Tottenham) and fellow Harry Kane (28) set a new record for the most joint goals in a single season in the Premier League.

Kane scored a 4-1 victory in the second half of the 31st minute against Crystal Palace in the home game of the 2020-21 Premier League round 27 held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on the 8th (Korean time). As Son Heung-min assists this goal, the total number of assist-goals by Son Heung-min and Kane this season became 14 goals. This is a new single-season record, exceeding 13 goals jointly by Blackburn’s Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton in the 1994-95 season.

It has been about two months since Son Heung-min and Kane joined the assist-goal team against Leeds United on January 2nd. In the meantime, there were tough times, such as Kane’s injury and Tottenham’s sluggishness, but the Son-Kane attack combination began to gain strength once again.

Son Heung-min helped 5 of the 16 Premier League goals scored by Kane this season. Nine of Son Heung-min’s 13 goals were assisted by Kane.

It was the Southampton game held in September last year that the two breathing especially exploded this season. Son Heung-min scored four goals in one game, and all four goals were assisted by Kane. That’s how they breathe. After this game, Son Heung-min said, “We know each other well because we have been in sync with Kane for the past five seasons. Kane gives me a pass as if telepathy works.”

Son Heung-min delivered an assist to Kane in the Crystal Palace match on the 8th, when Son Heung-min and Kane set a new record for a single-season joint goal.

They challenge another record.

So far, Son Heung-min and Kane have made 34 joint goals in the Premier League. Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba scored 36 goals for Chelsea in this category. There are still 11 regular league games left, so there is a good chance that the Son Heung-min-Kane combination will surpass this record within this season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham, who won a 4-1 win against Crystal Palace, climbed to 6th in the league with three consecutive victories. Gareth Bale (Tottenham), who was responsible for two goals each with Kane on this day, said, “I wanted to be a trio with superstars like Kane and Son Heung-min. That’s why I came to Tottenham.”
