Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko said at a press conference that afternoon, “There were reports that the number of infected people exceeded 1,000 today and reached 1,300,” and said, “There is no year-end or New Year holidays for Corona. Stop the countdown tonight and welcome the new year at home with your family.”

On this day, the number of infected people nationwide (at 6:00 pm) also recorded a record high of 4188, far exceeding 3852 on the previous day (30th).

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga held a countermeasure meeting on the afternoon of the 31st when he received a report that there were more than 1,300 confirmed cases in Tokyo. Interest has been raised on whether to declare an emergency, but Prime Minister Suga said, “First of all, it is important to do our best to avoid the spread of infection by solidifying the current medical system. This means that it has not yet considered an emergency declaration.

However, if the current spreading trend continues, it seems that there will be no other choice but to choose the last resort, the’declaration of emergency’. Yastoshi Nishimura, who is in charge of countermeasures against Corona 19, also said through a personal Twitter the night before, “If the spread of infection at the current level continues, we must review the declaration of emergency.”

The Japanese government issued an emergency declaration to seven regions including Tokyo on April 7, which was the first spread of the corona, and then expanded the dispatched regions nationwide on the 16th of the same month. After that, it began to be lifted in stages, and on May 25, it was completely lifted.
