Daejeon IEM International School, where 127 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) were poured out, is a boarding-type, unauthorized educational facility operated by the IM Mission, the headquarters of the Korea Next Generation Movement, with the aim of training missionaries.

IM Mission is an abbreviation of International English Misson, a missions organization that spreads the gospel in English.

This school, located in Daeheung-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, has 122 students and 37 faculty members.

Each year, young people aged 16-18 are selected to teach Christian faith and courses in middle and high schools (6th grade). The entrance fee is reported to be 3 million won, and monthly tuition is 900,000 won.

In order to be admitted to this place, you must participate in the state water camp hosted by the school at least once.

After enrollment, freshmen learn doctrine, community, and lifestyle for 4 weeks.

It is known that IM Mission officials recently held an admissions briefing, raising concerns about the spread.

According to the city of Daejeon on the 25th, two students (No. 234 in Suncheon, No. 389 in Pohang) went home for the weekend and were confirmed on the 24th, and the first inspection of the students and staff of this school was found as a result of 1 Myeong (Daejeon No. 961) and five teenage students (962-966) were positive.

Accordingly, the city’s quarantine authorities conducted a full test from the morning of the 24th, and 119 people (967-1085) were tested positive, 18 were negative, and 3 were undecided. The three undecided will be retested.

The confirmed patients are being transferred to the Asan Life Treatment Center in the morning of the 25th, and the negative testers are in self-isolation.

Daejeon Mayor Hur Tae-jung said in an emergency briefing on the 24th, “These are believed to have occurred as a result of the large number of students living in a densely-occupied facility.” I will do a thorough investigation.”

“According to the statements of the confirmed patients so far, it is understood that they were admitted until the last 15th, and there was no outside access or parental interviews,” he said. “I will make sure that the group infection does not spread to the community.”
