80% charge in 18 minutes… Half an hour
120 units installed this year, including highway rest areas
On the 23rd, Hyundai Motor Group introduced the super-fast charging brand’E-pit’. The Hyundai Motor Group decided to actively expand the domestic charging ecosystem, starting with 120 charging infrastructure this year.
E-Pit was inspired by the’Pit stop’, which stops for refueling and tire replacement in motor sports racing. Electric vehicle customers applying the Hyundai Motor Group’s 800V system can charge up to 80% of the remaining 10% battery in 18 minutes from the E-pit charger. It’s about half of the conventional charging time. It can run about 100km with just 5 minutes of charging.
The ease of use was also improved. Without a recharge card, you can use the E-pit app to authenticate, charge, and pay. When the number of people at the charging station is full, you can also get a waiting list through the app.
Electric vehicle cables that were previously heavy and stiff can also be automatically heightened and rotated. Hygiene is enhanced by adding an automatic sterilization LED (light-emitting diode) to the handle of the charger. The E-pit charger also won the main prize in the product design category of the ‘2021 Red Dot Design Award’.
Hyundai Motor Group will install a total of 72 E-pit chargers at 12 highway rest areas nationwide in the middle of next month. It plans to open 8 charging stations at major hubs in the city center within this year to equip 48 chargers. An official from the group said, “From this year, we plan to develop an electric vehicle charging ecosystem platform in earnest.”
