A woman in her 30s accused of assaulting and killing a man’s three-year-old daughter who lived with her was sentenced to 10 years in prison at the first trial.
On the 15th, the 13th Division of the Criminal Agreement of the Incheon District Law (Director Eun-seol Ko) sentenced A (35), who was convicted of child abuse and fatality under the Special Cases for Child Abuse Crimes Act, to 10 years in prison. It also ordered a 120-hour child abuse treatment program to be completed and a 10-year employment limit for child-related institutions.
On January 28, 2019, Mr. A is accused of assaulting the head of his daughter B (3) several times with a fist and a stick at his home in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, and killing him. Mr. A was generally dissatisfied with raising Ms. B when a man living with him went to work, and it was revealed that Ms. B committed the crime because he harassed her dog. Ms. B suffered brain death from subdural hemorrhage after a broken skull at the time, and died on February 26 of the same year a month later.
The judge said, “It is fully acknowledged that the defendant inflicted serious injury to the victim and resulted in death.” He added, “The father of the victim is suffering from extreme mental pain due to the crime of the defendant, and he submitted a petition requesting severe punishment.” “Do” he explained the reason for the sentence.
