[훅터뷰] Is it possible to regulate the’probability-type item’ that caused the Maple Story crisis this time?

Due to the item probability manipulation controversy, the wave of Nexon’s game’Maple Story’ is showing no signs of cooling down.

Users started complaining that’MapleStory’ had a different probability of’probability-type items’, which randomly gives additional options to items, as controversy arose. Probability-type items refer to’drawing-type products’ in which the type and effect are determined by chance when a user purchases an item for a fee.

Maple Story has an item called’Fire of Rebirth’.This item has the effect of increasing performance by giving additional options such as attack power or weapon damage to’random’ to equipment items in the game. As such, it has been suspected that the so-called’probability manipulation’ that is given with a low probability is a regrettable option.

Accordingly, Nexon decided to publish an apology and disclose the probability of items in’Maple Story’, but the complaints of users have not subsided. Nexon also announced that it is considering preparing a place for communication with MapleStory users, but the users are planning to enforce the meetings they are hosting as scheduled.

On the other hand, the National Assembly recently submitted a bill to the Legislative Review Subcommittee to make it mandatory to disclose the probability of drawing’probability-type items’ by law. This amendment, initiated by Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-heon, is the key to regulating games that promote speculative gambling through excessive’probability-type item drawing’ without disclosing the probability.

The’probability-type item’, which has been controversial so far, can we regulate this time? We invited reporter Jo Seong-jun of the IT Small and Medium Business Department, who is providing a sharp analysis of Maple Story and probability-type items, and listened to the backstory that could not be solved with the article.
