[팩플]Naver Coupang “Catch the last 1km”…this time the kickboard war

Naver and Coupang are increasing their contact with personal mobility (PM, personal mobility) such as shared electric kickboards and electric bicycles. There is growing interest in how the two companies fighting for dominance in the e-commerce market, which is growing rapidly every year, use PM.

Naver announced on the 16th that it has entered into a strategic business alliance with Kickgoing (operator Olulo), the nation’s largest shared electric kickboard service. First of all, consumers who want to ride Kickgoing can use the Naver certificate and mobile driver’s license to authenticate themselves in the Kickgoing app. When the’Naver Mobile Student ID Service’, which will be released next month, is activated, it is also being discussed to develop a kick-going fee system for college students by introducing it to Kick-Going. Ultimately, the goal is to combine services such as Naver directions (map) and reservations with shared PM services. A Naver official said, “It will be possible to collaborate in various aspects such as route guidance to the destination, location of the kickboard, and reservation for use.”

Coupang, which filed a listing declaration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on the 12th, is also collaborating in various ways with shared PMs, focusing on Coupangits, a food delivery service.

· Kick-going : Signed a business alliance with Coupang on the 28th of last month and launched a special rate plan for Coupang Itz delivery partners (articles). Coupangitsu delivery partners who deliver on foot receive a 30% discount when using Kickgoing.

· Elecle : Launched’Delivery Pass’, a subscription product for electric bikes exclusively for Coupang Itz delivery partners on the 15th of last month. It can be purchased in units of 3, 10, 20 hours and is 40-70% cheaper than the regular price.
· Beam mobility : Promotion of 20,000 points that can be used when using the Beam Mobility Kickboard to Coupangitsu delivery partners in Seocho-gu and Songpa-gu, Seoul.

The latest e-commerce topic is competitiveness in last mile delivery. Last mile delivery refers to the final stage of delivery of goods to consumers. As all stages of shopping have become digital, the ability to deliver goods to consumers in a timely manner has become more important than existing indicators such as store services and product items. Therefore, PM, who can ride to every corner of the alley and in front of the main gate, has emerged as a tool to increase competitiveness in’timely delivery’.

Seo Yong-gu, a professor of business administration at Sookmyung Women’s University, said, “PM is competitive in delivering goods to areas within a 1km radius due to the topographical characteristics of large cities in Korea. The PM who is there will become more important to e-commerce companies.”

CEO Choi Young-woo said, “As shared PMs are scattered throughout the city, a variety of services are available that utilize them.”
