[코로나19] The suspension of flights departing from the UK will be extended until the 11th of next month

The government has decided to extend the suspension of flights departing from the UK for another two weeks. The decision was made to block the influx of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) mutant virus into Korea.

According to the quarantine authorities and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the UK on the 24th, the suspension of operations for direct flights from the UK scheduled for the 25th will be extended by two more weeks until the 11th of next month.

The government temporarily suspended flights departing from Heathrow Airport in London from December 23 to 31 last year and arriving at Incheon International Airport from December 23 to 31 last year as mutant viruses were reported one after another. Since then, the government has continued to extend the measure.

It is known that the mutant virus, which is prevalent in the UK, is 1.7 times stronger than the existing virus. Therefore, the government raised the level of quarantine response during the quarantine process to block the influx of mutant viruses.

From this day on, the quarantine authorities have mandated the submission of a’negative confirmation’ for a gene amplification (PCR) test for all inbound travelers from overseas. Entry into the country itself is prohibited unless a foreigner submits a confirmation letter. Koreans can be quarantined for 14 days after undergoing diagnostic tests in temporary living facilities. All related costs are at your own expense. In addition, all immigrants must undergo examination after entering the country and before quarantine.

Currently, the mutant virus is spreading rapidly around the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of the 15th of this month, the number of countries with mutant virus originating from the UK increased to 94 countries. Variations from South Africa and Brazil occurred in 46 and 21 countries, respectively.

To date, the number of people who have been confirmed to have been infected with the mutant virus in Korea totaled 128 people, including 109 infected from the UK, 13 from South Africa, and 6 from Brazil.
