[이코노믹리뷰=편은지 기자] German health officials are considering permitting the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine to be given to citizens over the age of 65, who have excluded the lack of research as a problem.

According to the AFP news agency on the 27th (local time), the immunization committee under the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which is the German Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is considering a plan to recommend AstraZeneca vaccination to elderly people over 65 years old.

In an interview with the German public broadcaster ZDF the day before, Thomas Mertens, chairman of the vaccination chairman, asked whether the AstraZeneca vaccine could be approved for all ages. “Vaccination is possible and we will do that.” said.

Germany has given the AstraZeneca vaccine only to people under the age of 65. This was due to the lack of clinical data on vaccination for the elderly.

In addition to Germany, at least 10 European countries, such as France, Sweden, Austria, and Italy, limit AstraZeneca vaccination to those under the age of 65.

On the other hand, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended conditional marketing approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine on the 29th of last month, and decided that the age of use was set to “all age groups over 18 years of age,” so that it can be used by the elderly.
