On November 16, last year, when Soka, who operates a ride sharing service platform, made such a notice, his eyes were closed. “No, you’re selling at such a cheap price? Really?” I thought it was an old car, but both models were 2017. The total number of units sold is 20 units, 10 units each. I was worried that the mileage was between 100,000 and 120,000 km and there was power for rental cars. Still, at this price, I decided to stand in line even if I thought that it would be a business that would be sold again later. This is because vehicles of similar level are sold more expensive at 5 million won in the general used car market.

11 am on this day. After the special event started, I turned on the Soka application (app) and entered’casting’. Casting is a used car platform service operated by Soka. However, an unexpected problem occurred. The screen did not go over and an error message or connection delay appeared. People who were interested in the’good’ price were crowded at once. It was embarrassing at first, but after waiting calmly, I was able to make a reservation. The vehicle the reporter caught was Tucson with a mileage of 104,500 km.

◇ Car rental history is uneasy… “Because it’s Sokan” to believe

The competition was so fierce, so I checked the condition of the vehicle after making a reservation. ‘Casting diagnosis report’ prepared by an external inspection company, performance inspection record, and insurance history were provided. The inspection report contained records of meticulous examination of even imprints, scratches, contamination, and poor painting. There were some flaws in the exterior, but there seemed to be no structural problems that required maintenance. In addition, it was confirmed that there was an accident once through the insurance history, but the repair cost was 750,000 won, so it was determined that there was no problem.

Still, I was worried that it was used as a rental car. I was worried that there might be a flaw that users couldn’t catch because of the rough handling.

But I decided to trust it. This is because it is not a private used car dealer, but a vehicle sold under the company name Sokara. In addition, I was relieved that Socar, in partnership with Hyundai Marine, guarantees free after-sales service (AS) for up to 20,000 km for 12 months after taking over the vehicle through the’casting guarantee program’.

◇ There was a feeling of using a used car, but it was more neat than expected.

The whole process of Socar’s used car transaction is non-face-to-face. The app solves reservations, consignments, contracts, and various inquiries. After reservation, it provides a’ride’ service where you can test drive 24 to 48 hours in advance before purchase. It can be used for 130,000 won for 24 hours and 180,000 won for 48 hours, including consignment fees, insurance, and driving charges. When the final purchase is confirmed, the previously paid ride fee is discounted from the total payment amount.

The vehicle reserved by the reporter arrived in front of the house the next day. There was a feeling of use, such as some scratches on the back of the front seat or the inside of the door, but it was clean enough to think that it was a rental car. The handle cover and coil mat were also replaced by Soka for added comfort.

I tried a test drive right away. It was clearly contrasted with the usual Socar rental car. The engine sound, handling, and brakes were smooth and impeccable. Since it was not a new car that I picked myself, there were some regrets in terms of options such as wheel size, speakers, and ventilation seats, but if you buy a used car, it was a disadvantage that you had to bear. I drove 40km round-trip from Wangsimni in Seoul to Hanam, Gyeonggi, but as soon as I arrived in Hanam, I confirmed the purchase.

The actual money was 9.9 million won for the car, and 800,000 won was added for essential expenses such as employment registration tax and license plate replacement fee, and 700,000 won was spent on separate navigation and rear camera installation. From the end of November to the present, I have driven 1200 km for about two months, and the wheel pressure has weakened, so I am riding without any problems except for one wind. The tire size, which was unfortunate, will soon be changed from 17 inches to 19 inches.



Even now, Soka App Casting sells not only Tucson and Sportage, but also The New Ray, Kona, Avante, Carnival, and Morning at 10-20% cheaper than the general market price. In fact, the biggest advantage I felt while buying a used car through Socar was the belief that “at least I will not hide or cheat” rather than the price. According to the results of a recent survey conducted by Soka,’trust in the Socar brand’ (36.8%) was the most common reason for buyers to buy casting. This was followed by reasonable price (18.4%), ride service (14.9%), transparency of vehicle information (9.2%), and free warranty program (8%).

From this month, Socar decided to expand its service area, which was limited to the existing metropolitan area, nationwide, including Daejeon, Sejong, Cheongju, Wonju, and Cheonan.
