[주말엔 건강] The way from the hospital to’home’

[아이뉴스24 정종오 기자] The road from the hospital to’home’ is full of laughter, expectation, joy, and love. Those who have overcome disease are more so. The problem is that some of the people going’home’ from the hospital come out with a sigh first, are worried, sad, and lonely.

There are people who are far away from the future. They are more concerned about the day they have to go back to their lives than the joy of recovering from illness.

Elderly people living alone and patients with disabilities without high incomes are more worried than expected to be discharged from the hospital. Public medical support for those in need of little help has begun. On the 21st, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (Chief Rong-min Baek) completed the construction of the first house of the’Go Home’ project, a residential environment improvement project for low-income elderly and disabled patients.

This project is managed by the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital Public Medical Service Center. It started to help low-income elderly and disabled patients return to their homes safely and autonomously after completion of treatment at the hospital.

In the case of the elderly with disabilities in movement and patients with physical disabilities, various problems arise when they return to home. Entrance stairs and room thresholds, toilets and bedrooms with a high risk of falling can interfere with daily life. Such an environment can lead to serious injuries such as fractures and brain damage from falls and slippage.

It is good to systematically provide support for each local government, but the reality is that it is insufficient. Dangers and discomfort in the residential environment act as an obstacle for patients to return to home and society in a timely manner.

Seoul National University Bundang Hospital began promoting the project earlier this year to support patients’ safe return to daily life. As the schedule was delayed due to Corona 19 (new corona), the construction of the first house of the’Home’ project on the 21st has now been completed.

The first target of this project is a 64-year-old living alone patient who was discharged home after receiving treatment for a cerebral infarction at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. This was a case where the risk of falls was very high because the body was partially paralyzed and was uncomfortable to move, as well as living alone without a guardian.

After selecting the first target, a medical social worker, an occupational therapist, and a contractor specializing in fall prevention visited the home directly. The risk to the residential environment was evaluated professionally. It was confirmed that it was necessary to install safety devices to prevent falls, to change furniture and arrange space, and to prepare rehabilitation aids to minimize the risk of injuries to discharged individuals living alone.

The bathroom is the place where falls are the most common. A non-slip mat was installed on the bathroom floor, and a toilet safety handle and a shower chair were installed to increase patient convenience. The bedroom was replaced with a safe electric bed to make it easier for the patient to get up and work out of the bed. Safety handles and non-slip mats were installed. Furniture with high stumbling elements was replaced and rearranged.

Nam-jong Paik, head of the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, head of the Public Medical Service Project, said, “This’Home’ project has begun to help patients continue their safe daily life even after they are discharged from the hospital. It will continue.”

The community took care of areas that were not thought of before, and a small help became a precious gift to one person.

[미니박스①] “If this is a pain in your teeth, do this.”

How to find a dentist by symptom

When looking for a dentist, it is important to find the right department for each symptom. [강동경희대병원]

There are several departments in dentistry. When a certain part of the tooth hurts, it is better to find a specific department to treat it.

◆“Childish hurts”… Pediatric dentistry=The Pediatric Dental Clinic comprehensively manages the health of the jaw, facial and oral tissues, including teeth, from birth to adolescence. Observe the normal detachment of deciduous teeth and permanent teeth, and evaluate the teeth and jawbone to develop appropriately in time.

If tooth decay occurs before tooth decay, tooth decay is prevented by applying fluoride or thinning.

◆“I see teeth aches and cavities”… Department of Dental Conservation=If you experience any damage such as aching, aching, cracking, or cracking on your teeth, you should visit the Dental Conservation Department. According to the data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, the number of patients who visited the hospital for tooth decay (dental caries) in 2019 reached 6.45 million.

The Department of Conservation treats damaged teeth so that they can be used without pulling them out.

◆“A wisdom tooth aches, face swollen, and unable to open mouth”… Oral surgery (oral and maxillofacial surgery)=There are many cases where you have to go to the oral surgery clinic if you have to go to a local dentist and find a large hospital. Oral surgery provides surgical diagnosis and treatment for various diseases, trauma and reconstruction, and congenital and acquired anomalies related to the mouth (oral), jaw (maxilla), and face (facial) areas.

From dental surgery such as simple extraction, surgical extraction, wisdom tooth extraction, pre-prosthetic surgery, implant placement, and treatment of infectious diseases, jaw correction surgery (two jaw surgery), cleft lip and palate surgery, accidental trauma to the face of the jaw, as well as oral It covers various diseases of the oral, maxillary and facial areas ranging from benign tumors in the face and neck to the treatment of cancer.

◆“I need artificial teeth such as implants and dentures”… Prosthesis=The Department of Dental Prosthesis aims to restore the function of the oral cavity, jaw joint and face and improve aesthetics by replacing teeth with artificial materials such as implants and dentures that many people know.

Depending on the number of remaining teeth, complete dentures, partial dentures with a ring on the remaining teeth, or if it is difficult to wear dentures, the missing teeth are recovered with implant magnet dentures. In addition to tooth defects due to tooth decay or gum disease, prosthetic treatment includes rehabilitation treatment that restores the original function when a part of the jaw is removed due to a car accident or disease and the teeth and surrounding tissues are lost.

◆“It hurts when there is a noise in the jaw joint, teeth, or bite hard”… Oral Medicine = Oral medicine can be thought of as a treatment mainly related to opening and closing the mouth. In particular, various pains occurring in the mouth and face, which can be confused with toothache, are screened and diagnosed, and treatment and drug therapy are performed. In addition, diagnosis and examination of soft tissue diseases such as herpes, ulcers, and infections appearing on the oral mucosa, snoring, dental sleep disorders, dry mouth, and bad breath are conducted.

◆“My gums are bleeding and my teeth are throbbing”… Periodontal=Dental department is the most visited department among dental departments. In 2019, about 16.8 million patients visited the dentist for periodontal disease and gingivitis.

It is so common that three out of four adults suffer from periodontal disease. The periodontal clinic proceeds with treatment according to the degree of periodontal disease, and the treatment method is determined from scaling to gum surgery, periodontal tissue regeneration, plastic surgery and implant placement.

◆“The teeth are crooked and don’t fit”… Department of Orthodontics=The Department of Orthodontics deals with malocclusions that do not fit well. Malocclusion adversely affects not only cosmetic problems but also oral functions such as pronunciation and chewing function. It makes oral hygiene difficult to manage, which can affect the occurrence and progression of gum disease or tooth decay.

If you have bad oral habits, if there is a problem with tooth alignment, if there is a problem with jaw growth, if there is a problem with the growth of the jaw, you can find a dental orthodontics department for cases to secure a space for restoring the lost tooth.

Mi-seon Kim, professor of pediatric dentistry at Kangdong Kyunghee University Hospital, said, “Everyone can think of it as the same dentistry, but there are various departments in dentistry. It is helpful to know which department to look for for each painful area.”

[미니박스②] Effects of using herbal medicines in the treatment of neck pain

Autogenous Spine Joint Research Institute, published related papers

Neck pain is so common that 7 out of 10 people experience it at one time. Neck pain has a high rate of recurrence and chronicity as well as discomfort in daily life. The primary treatment for neck pain is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Side effects such as gastritis, ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleeding have also been reported.

Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital Spinal Joint Research Institute (Director Inhyuk Ha) A research team of oriental medicine doctor So Minji conducted a study to confirm the effectiveness of herbal medicine treatment for neck pain. The research team collected and analyzed RCT papers that studied pain intensity, dysfunction index, and quality of life in adult neck pain patients who received herbal medicine treatment. To this end, 16 research papers were selected as targets for analysis using a domestic and international paper search system.

For the study, it was divided into a group of herbal medicine treatment, a combination treatment group with herbal medicine and general conservative treatment, and a conservative treatment group with general conservative treatment only.

Common conservative treatments for neck pain were muscle relaxants, physical therapy, and acupuncture therapy. Visual pain scale (VAS) was mainly used to measure the results, and meta-analysis was conducted based on this.

As a result of the meta-analysis of VAS between the general conservative treatment and the combined treatment group, the mean difference was -1.23 (95% confidence interval -1.65, -0.80), which was more significant than the general conservative treatment in the combined treatment group. The research team explained that the reduction effect could be confirmed.

I also looked at the improvement of the neck function. As a result of examining the neck disability index (NDI), which is an indicator of the improvement of neck function, the research team found that the average difference was -8.00 (95% confidence interval -8.82, -7.18), which was significant when combined treatment was performed rather than general conservative treatment alone. Showed good results.

The research paper was published in the November issue of the international journal’Journal of Herbal Medicine’.

“As neck pain is a common symptom that more than half of the population experiences at least once in a lifetime, it is important to choose a treatment that is effective and does not burden the body,” said So Min-ji, an oriental medical doctor at Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital. When combined with general conservative treatment, it was confirmed that significant pain reduction and function improvement effects appeared.”
