Kia has made new attempts that have not been previously seen throughout the interior of the K8.

What’s impressive is the position of the steering wheel (handle) ADAS button.

The steering wheel of the Kia K8, which was unveiled on the 4th, has a 3-spoke type steering wheel bearing the new Kia logo.

If you enlarge the picture provided by Kia, you can see the ADAS buttons located on the left. Existing Hyundai-Kia Motors and Genesis New Cars placed a button that can execute the ADAS function on the right side of the steering wheel, but the K8 broke the convention of Hyundai-Kia Motors.

On the left side of the K8 steering wheel, the smart cruise control can adjust the distance between cars, set up a vehicle cluster, and execute lane maintenance assistance.

On the right side of the steering wheel are buttons to execute infotainment functions. The voice recognition button that can execute Kakao Eye, etc. is located on the far right of the steering wheel.

Kia explained that the ADAS buttons were placed on the left side of the steering wheel, “which reflects ergonomic characteristics and customer feedback.” Following the K8, it is planned to install a driving assistance button on the left side of the steering wheel in the future Kia full-change (completely changed) vehicles. If the K8’s attempt is positively evaluated by the public, it is highly likely that the driving assistance buttons on the left side of the steering wheel will be applied to the new models of Hyundai and Genesis in the future.

There is no significant difference between the K8 cluster and the display compared to the existing Kia new car. Both the cluster and display size are 12.3 inches, the same as the existing K7 Premier.

Instead, Kia explained that it has constructed a panoramic curved display in which the K8 cluster and the display are connected in a curved form.

In the photos distributed to media targets on the 4th, the UI where the cluster and the display connect to each other did not appear. Since the vehicle has not yet been released, Kia is expected to come up with a marketing strategy to highlight the advantages of the panoramic curved display in the future.

The touch operation buttons at the bottom of the 12.3-inch display change according to the user’s characteristics. A related menu appears when you want to set infotainment-related settings, and an air conditioning button appears when you want to add the interior temperature setting and air cleaning function in the vehicle. It is evaluated as fresh because it is a structure that cannot be found in existing Hyundai Motors and Kia, but there are concerns that fingerprint marks may occur due to the touch display.

The circular electronic shifting dial design is the same as that of the existing Kia and Genesis. However, this part also has a differentiation point that other cars do not have.

On the 4th, Kia explained about the shift dial around the K8 center console, “The more it gets away from the driver’s body, the easier it is to reach and it gradually increases, so it has excellent user convenience.”

Kia has not yet revealed space in the rear of the K8. The total length of the K8 is 5015mm, which is over 5 meters. The total length of the existing K7 is 4995mm.
