The IONIQ 5 is enough to be an electric vehicle that will be in the limelight of consumers who like car in the future. However, the mileage approved by the Ministry of Environment has not yet been announced for this car. Hyundai Motor Company has repeatedly revealed that the predicted mileage of the Ioniq 5 Long Range will range from 410 km to 430 km. From the point of view of the consumer, it is bound to be frustrating.

The interior of the IONIQ 5 is equipped with a 12.3-inch cluster (instrument panel) and a 12.3-inch center fascia display. It seems to embody the feeling of a tram book. When the vehicle was first unveiled, Hyundai Motor Company named the cluster’s theme as’Jong-e’.

The center fascia display located on the right side of the cluster is also composed of a white theme that was not seen in existing Hyundai or Genesis. The graphic also has a new design that cannot be seen in the previous Hyundai Motor Company.

Visibility is fine. If you choose the white theme, it harmonizes well with the thick white bezel located around the display and the OLED display for digital side mirrors located on the side.

However, this white theme can be too dazzling at times, and elements like this can greatly hinder driving.

Considering this, Hyundai Motor Company also applied a black theme to the display and cluster. When I applied the black theme myself, the visibility looked better than white. The Aqua theme unique to Hyundai is not in the IONIC 5. It seems that Hyundai Motor Company constructed a new theme for the IONIQ brand.

Seamless digital side mirror screen

The IONIQ 5 is the second vehicle sold in Korea with a camera mounted in the seat of the side mirror. Hyundai Motor Company calls the specification’digital side mirror’.

The’Pixel Light’, a design element peculiar to Hyundai Motor Company, is located on the surface of the digital side mirror. If you turn on the turn indicators, you can see the flow of vehicle movement from the side and front, and you can see it well even in bright days.

On both sides of the indoor A-pillar, there are OLED displays on which the screen taken by the digital side mirror is displayed. The screens on this display are seamless and the quality is good. Through the indoor center fascia display, the driver can adjust the brightness according to the desired setting.

When a digital side mirror is applied, the current status of the surrounding lane flow can be viewed on the indoor OLED display.

Hyundai Motor has incorporated an OLED display for digital side mirrors to target a variety of markets, including Korea, with four distinct seasons. This is because OLED has more strength than LCD when driving at low temperatures.

Digital side mirrors can be electrically controlled like normal side mirrors. If the external digital side mirror is folded, a message indicating “digital side mirror is folded” appears on the indoor monitor.

Digital side mirrors could be a model for future cars in the future, but the likes and dislikes of the specifications seem to be clearly divided.

The main reason is the options. The digital side mirrors are available as an option on the top-of-the-line prestige trim, with the requirement to select the parking assist function. Although Hyundai has not yet disclosed the Ioniq 5 option price, if the price of the digital side mirror is relatively high, it is expected that consumers will not be able to choose.

Ioniq 5 also applies to standard side mirrors. Below the standard side mirrors, there is an around-view monitor or a rear-view camera that can be used to change lanes. Using this rear view camera, the digital cluster shows the status of the left and right sides of the lane when changing lanes. This is a function for reducing blind spots.

Hyundai Motor Company is intensively promoting the center console of the Ioniq 5. It is explained that by using the lever to move the center console back and forth, it is possible to create a variety of spaces. Since the shift lever is located on the right side of the steering wheel, the SBW shift button on the top of the center console, which is common in existing Hyundai cars, cannot be found on the Ioniq 5.

Universal Island’s space utilization is high. The universal island armrest angle can be freely set according to the driver’s or passenger’s preference, and there is enough space to accommodate a backpack.

The Ioniq 5 Universal Island can be moved back and forth, so space utilization is high.

However, what is regrettable is the location of the smartphone’s wireless charging pad.

The Ioniq 5 smartphone’s wireless charging pad is located on the bottom of Universal Island. It is a structure in which you have to lower your head to place the smartphone and take it out. It is regrettable that it did not consider the ergonomic factors relatively compared to other vehicles. It is regarded as Hyundai Motor’s unavoidable choice for space utilization.

What’s interesting, though, is that the wireless charging function of the smartphone remains even if you move the Universal Island back and forth.

The body size of the Ionic 5 is 4635mm in length, 1890mm in width, 1605mm in height, and 3000mm in wheelbase. The 3000mm wheelbase highlights the fact that the Ioniq 5 is a relatively large electric vehicle.

In fact, riding in the second row of seats, I didn’t feel that there was a big lack of space. I used the lever to tilt the back of the seat back, and it lays quite a lot. When I recline, I don’t feel the lack of space in the head and knees at all.

The Ionic 5 first row seats have leg rests. If you flip the seat back, you can enjoy a break using the leg rest. However, these leg rests don’t feel like supporting the calves of an oversized adult.

External V2L adapter that works well for the hair dryer

The key marketing point of IONIQ 5 is the V2L system. It is characterized by being able to use various electronic devices by utilizing the power inside the vehicle.

Ioniq 5’s external V2L adapter is standard. If you connect this adapter to the charging port on the right side of the vehicle, you can use a typical 220 volt power.

The staff at the event hall brought a hair dryer and demonstrated the V2L function. There was a hair dryer sound, which is usually heard inside the house or in a beauty salon. There was no power cut in the middle.

You can also use V2L power indoors, which is an option. If you choose this option, Hyundai explained that you can use the Ioniq 5 customizing mini refrigerator, which is scheduled to be released in the second half of this year.

Mileage is the key…If you use V2L frequently, you may lose mileage.

As mentioned above, Hyundai has not yet announced the mileage approved by the domestic Ministry of Environment for the Ionic 5 Long Range. It is expected that the exact mileage will be released when the vehicle is officially released from April.

When looking at the Gravity Gold Matte vehicle cluster placed inside the event hall that day, a mark appeared that it could travel a total of 249 km with 89% charged. It seems to have been using the V2L system. It is predicted that as more power to the outside is consumed, the mileage can be shortened. It seems that Hyundai Motor Company should explain this well to customers who purchase Ioniq 5.

Excluding subsidies for the Ionic 5 Long Range, the estimated selling price is 52 million won to 52.5 million won for exclusive and 57 million won to 57.5 million won for prestige.
