The US Secretary of State and Defense, who visited Korea on their first overseas trip to the Biden administration, met with our ministers to discuss strengthening the ROK-US alliance and resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.

The two countries agreed to reaffirm the solid ROK-US alliance and to consult closely to come up with a fully coordinated strategy toward North Korea.

After visiting Japan, the U.S. Defense and the secretary’s private planes arrived at Osan Air Force Base in sequence.

It has been 11 years since the two ministers in charge of US diplomacy and security visited Korea together, demonstrating US willingness to strengthen the alliance.

At the ROK-US defense ministers’ meeting following the official welcome ceremony, the two sides agreed that the ROK-US alliance is a key pillar of peace and stability.

Foreign Minister Eui-yong Eui and US Secretary of State Blincoln discussed ways to advance denuclearization.

In the following meetings, the two countries agreed on the importance of Korea-US-Japan security cooperation for North Korea’s nuclear response and stability in the Northeast Asian region.

In particular, Ministers Eui-yong Eui and Blincoln held separate meetings in the office of the Minister’s Office and decided to come up with a fully coordinated policy strategy toward North Korea.

In the midst of this, Minister Blincoln has criticized China on the issues of Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang, saying South Korea and the United States must defend democracy.

On the second day of the two ministers’ visit to Korea, following the 2+2 meeting, the Korea-US defense expenditure agreement will be held, and the results of this meeting will be summarized through a joint press conference.
