Yes, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the first half of the ROK-US joint drill will be held for nine days from tomorrow.

Compared to the 10-day Korean-US training held in August last year, it is a one-day reduced schedule.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the decision was made in this way, taking into account all conditions such as the Corona 19 situation, maintaining combat readiness, and supporting diplomatic efforts for denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

While the scale of participation in the training has been minimized due to the coronavirus situation, training using computer simulation will be conducted instead of large-scale outdoor maneuvering training.

It does not verify the FOC that attracted attention, in other words, the full operational capability of the future Allied Forces Command.

Instead, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that they plan to conduct part of the field operation training conducted by the four-star generals in preparation for the FOC verification in the future.

This means that we will make substantial progress in the conversion of opposition rights.

However, if the FOC verification, which is the second stage of the transition to the exhibition, has been postponed again, and the Corona 19 situation does not subside during training in the second half of the year, it is highly likely that the FOC verification this year will not be possible.

Therefore, experts analyze that the conversion of OPCON, which must meet the verification up to the third stage, is in fact difficult to achieve within the Moon Jae-in government’s term of office.

The ROK side was in a position to proceed with the verification of OPCON conversion during this joint training, but it seems that the US military reinforcement to participate in the verification was unable to enter Korea due to the situation of Corona 19, etc.

Yes, North Korea has not yet made any official comments regarding the ROK-US joint exercise.

Earlier, Chairman Kim Jong-un accused us of continuing to ignore repeated warnings that we should stop bringing in advanced military equipment and stop joint military exercises with the United States at the 8th Party Congress in January.

However, it was mentioned that depending on our attitude, in other words, if we stop the ROK-US joint exercises, we could return to the spring day three years ago.

In this regard, Unification Minister Lee In-young also expressed that he wished the ROK and US military authorities to respond flexibly and wisely in consideration of inter-Korean relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Although the scale has been drastically reduced and the duration has been shortened, we are interested in how the North will react as it is decided to carry out the training itself as scheduled.
