[정치]President Moon starts face-to-face diplomacy… in earnest after June

President Moon Jae-in actively conducted face-to-face diplomacy, which had been discontinued after Corona 19, following the interview with Latin American ministers this week and meeting with the US Secretary of State and Defense.

However, the schedule of top-level face-to-face diplomacy such as the Korea-US summit has not yet been restored.

As President Moon is vaccinated next week to attend the G7 Summit held in June, it is expected that a full-fledged face-to-face diplomacy will take place from June onwards.

President Moon Jae-in met with the ministers and ambassadors of four Latin American countries this week, and even conducted interviews with the Secretary of State and Defense of the United States.

In particular, in meetings with US ministers, we also shared opinions on diplomatic issues as it was our first meeting with the US administration.

These recent schedules are interpreted as starting the face-to-face diplomacy that President Moon had halted due to the spread of Corona 19.

President Moon’s last meeting with the overseas leaders was in December 2019, and more than a year has passed since the Korea-China-Japan summit.

Last year, it was all that we met on video at various international conferences.

However, the need for a summit diplomacy is growing, with the new administration of the United States inaugurated and the frozen Korea-Japan relations are not improving at all.

In a phone call last month, President Moon and US President Biden sympathized with the need for an immediate meeting, but the corona situation was tagged.

President Moon Jae-in is preparing for the Corona 19 vaccination next week to attend the G7 summit in the UK in June.

For this reason, it is predicted that overseas visits or normal diplomats will be able to get into full swing after June, when the vaccination effect becomes effective.

The schedule of the ROK-US summit, which was expected to make progress during the visit to the US State and Defense Ministers, is also likely to be adjusted after June.
