The ROK-US joint training in the first half of this year will be held from today to the 18th.

Due to the coronavirus situation, the scale of training was also minimized and field maneuvering was not conducted, but uncertainty increased as the FOC verification, the core of the transition to wartime, was delayed again.

The ROK-US joint training in the first half of the year will be held on a 9-day schedule excluding weekends and holidays until the 18th.

It is a day shorter than the training in the second half of last year.

Considering the coronavirus situation, it was decided to minimize the amount of participation in the training and not to do large-scale outdoor maneuvering training.

In addition, verification of the full operational capability of the FOC and the Future Combined Command, which was the second stage of the conversion of wartime power, which was expected, has also been postponed.

Our side was in a position to proceed with the verification during this training, but it seems that the US military reinforcement to participate in the verification was unable to enter Korea due to corona conditions, etc., and eventually took a step toward procrastination.

However, even during training in the second half of the year, if the corona situation does not subside, there is a high likelihood that it will be postponed again.

Instead, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that it would make substantial progress in the transition of OPCON by conducting some training for the front-line operations commanded by the four-star generals in preparation for future FOC verification.

In addition, it is a policy to operate a safety training control TF and prepare personal quarantine measures during the training period, such as wearing a mask and disinfecting hands, so that training will not be disrupted even in the Corona 19 situation.

North Korea, which has been fiercely opposed to the ROK-US training every time, has yet to come up with an official or informal reaction to this.

It was only reported that Chairman Kim Jong-un emphasized’focused on public sentiment’ by attending the closing ceremony of the class of secretaries in charge of the Si, Gun and Party held for the first time in the history of the Labor Party.

While some are raising rumors of North Korean provocation aimed at training in the US in March, attention is being drawn to what kind of actions Chairman Kim Jong-un will take.
