After the call between the U.S. and Japan, there was a greater interest in the timing and content of the first call between the U.S. and the ROK.

It is because attention is paid to how much sympathy the two leaders will share over major issues such as the North Korean nuclear solution and alliance solidarity in the first call.

The first call between the US and the ROK is expected to focus above all on the North Korean nuclear issue and strengthening the ROK-US alliance.

As for the urgency of resolving the North Korean nuclear issue, the Biden administration generally agrees.

US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln spoke with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on the 27th, agreeing that the North Korean nuclear issue is an urgent issue.

President Joe Biden also reaffirmed this in a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on the 28th.

However, in the North Korean denuclearization solution, a subtle difference in time is detected between the US and the ROK.

While South Korea is focusing on prompt dialogue with North Korea to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, the US is focused on strengthening regional security and alliances to combat China.

White House spokesman Jen Saki previously stressed that “President Biden is committed to halting China’s economic supremacy, and that the most efficient way to do so is to work with the alliance.”
