[정치][현장영상] Prime Minister Chung “This week will be an important crossroads between the spread and the truth”

At this time, the Seoul City Hall is holding a meeting of the Corona 19 Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters presided over by Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun.

Let’s listen to the comments of Prime Minister Chung’s meeting a while ago.

[정세균 / 국무총리]

We start the last week of 2020. The 5th day is about to end with an 11-day pause with you.

Unlike in previous years, you can’t enjoy winter sports to your heart’s content, and you won’t be able to even make a wish for the new year by visiting the sunrise spots with your family.

However, if we spend the end of this year without breaking the spread of Corona 19, the spring of hope will be farther away.

About 25% of domestic confirmed cases in the past month were found to have been infected by their families.

As a result of epidemiological investigations, most of them are in their 40s and 50s, who are active in social activities, first becoming infected and then spreading into the home.

In particular, 44% of confirmed cases under their 20s were found to be infected by secondary transmission in the home.

In the end, in order to curb the current spread, quarantine at work and social activities and at home are very important.

First of all, I hope that the middle-aged and senior citizens will thoroughly practice the quarantine rules in their workplace and social activities to protect the safety of their loved ones.

We urge you to keep personal hygiene rules at home and refrain from family gatherings and events this year.

The problem of securing sick beds, which was a concern as the number of confirmed cases was soaring, has been resolved as a result of joint efforts between the government and the private sector.

In the case of the metropolitan area, the number of confirmed patients waiting for more than a day until yesterday has decreased to double digits, and the number of severely ill patient beds available right now has increased significantly to 80.

We are deeply grateful to all hospitals and medical staff who have actively cooperated with us to secure beds.

However, the infection continues to continue in vulnerable places such as nursing homes, so it is not a situation where you can feel relieved at all.

The government will continue to make efforts to secure enough medical personnel and provide enough spare beds until the stabilization phase is clearly entered.

Fighting Corona 19 has never been insignificant at any moment, but this week will be an important crossroads between spread and calm.

I hope that the citizens will be a little more patient and join forces in participatory quarantine.

We all look forward to welcoming you to the upcoming New Year, with hope.

Thank you.
