Forest fires in Andong and Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, managed to extinguish in 21 hours.

2.5 million square meters of wasted forest has turned into ashes, and hundreds of residents have urgently evacuated.

You can see a red flame through a valley covered with hazy smoke.

A wildfire extinguishing helicopter flies constantly and pours water.

On the 21st, around 3:20 pm, the fire started at Yasan, Mangcheon-ri, Imdong-myeon, Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and quickly spread to Jungpyeong-ri, a few kilometers away.

[권점동 / 마을 주민 : 집 쪽으로 진화대가 와서 물을 퍼붓고 해서 집은 괜찮아요. 마당까지는 다 탔고 건물만 괜찮아요. 바람이 많이 불었으니까 감당이 안 됐습니다.]

The forest authorities issued a second phase of response and brought fire fighting personnel and equipment from neighboring cities and provinces such as Daegu, Busan and Daejeon.

However, the terrain was rough and the wind blew hard, making it difficult to catch the fire.

After intensively putting 23 helicopters and a thousand manpower, the evolution succeeded at around 12:20 p.m. 21 hours later.

In the meantime, 2 million square meters of forest has turned into ashes.

Also, as flames spread to the village, more than 100 residents were evacuated.

At one time, a fire threatened cultural properties such as Jeong Jae Jong-taek and Man Woo-jeong, but fortunately, no damage occurred.

A fire started in Gamcheon-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongbuk, a nearby area, burned 500,000 square meters of forest and extinguished in 18 hours.

In the process, about 200 residents evacuated to a nearby village and stayed awake.

Forest authorities are preparing for the embers to come back to life, leaving 10 helicopters and 1,300 manpower behind, according to forecasts that the wind will rebound.
