[전국]Renewable energy power remaining in Jeju Island, sent to land

[앵커]

The government has decided to transfer the remaining renewable energy power from Jeju Island to land.

This is because over-produced power often forces renewable energy generators to be shut down.

Even in 1998, the amount of renewable energy generation in Jeju Island was zero.

However, last year, solar and wind power produced more than 700 megawatts of renewable energy, rising to the level of 16% of Jeju’s total power generation.

It is almost equal to that of advanced countries in renewable energy.

Although the production of renewable energy has increased and the proportion has also increased, there has also been a problem of exceeding Jeju’s electricity demand.

In this case, output control is performed, which is a so-called shutdown in which power generation is forcibly stopped.

It reached 77 times last year alone, resulting in 19,000 megawatts of energy that could not be produced.

To solve this problem, Jeju Island proposed to the government to designate a special distributed energy zone.

Renewable energy produced in Jeju is consumed locally and the remaining energy is stored and sold.

The government also decided to introduce a regionally-led distributed energy system and promoted it first in Jeju.

To this end, it is planned to hurry to complete the construction of a third linkage line that can transmit power in both directions in real time according to the power supply and demand situation in Jeju and other regions by next year, securing the function of inverting the two link lines laid on the seabed that could only receive electricity from other regions. is.

This is the first step in the liberalization of electricity trading that Jeju Island is promoting as the core of the New Deal policy.

If this happens, the problem of instability in the power system in Jeju will be solved, and residents will benefit from reducing electricity costs.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is planning to successfully expand the regional-led distributed energy system in Jeju and expand it nationwide.

Another experiment is starting in Jeju, which is aiming for low-carbon green growth.
