The main fire was extinguished around 9:40 a.m. today, after 18 hours of forest fire in the national forest in Yeoryang-myeon, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do.

The fire, which appears to have started at around 4pm yesterday near the houses under the mountain, spread through strong winds of more than 5m per second.

However, as the day got dark, the helicopter withdrew and the steep mountain slopes made evolution difficult.

As the day dawned this morning, fourteen extinguishing helicopters were deployed, accelerating the evolution.

The weakening of the wind also helped to avoid the worst.

There are about 10 households living at the bottom of the mountain, but there was no injury or damage to the house.

Until now, the forest has been tentatively counted as having burnt an area of ​​120,000 square meters and more than 16 soccer fields.
