Major tourist attractions, including the national sunrise spot, are closed from today (24th) to January 3rd, when the New Year’s holiday ends.

In particular, Gangneung City has taken super tough measures to prevent crowds of tourists during the sunrise, such as banning meals in restaurants on the 31st and 1st of January.

Reporter Song Se-hyuk covered it.

Anmok Beach, a representative tourist destination in Gangneung.

A banner was hung informing about access control, and a control line was installed along the sandy beach.

Eight major beaches, including Gyeongpo and Jeongdongjin, were closed until January 3 in accordance with the government’s new year-end and New Year quarantine measures.

However, it is also noticeable that some tourists cross the control line and cross the beach without worrying about these measures.

On the last day of this year and on the first day of the new year, when the sun sets are likely to be crowded, there is more control. Car parks around major beaches are closed to completely prevent tourist access.

In addition, meals are not allowed in all restaurants in Gangneung area for 24 hours from 3 pm on the 31st.

The Jjimjilbang is also banned for three days starting on the 31st following the Christmas holiday.

This is because tourists may flock to the sauna instead of accommodations with limited reservations at 50% of the rooms.

Even with such an ultra-high rainfall, most of the KTX going from Seoul to Gangneung on the 31st has sold out, and concerns remain.

The city of Gangneung has decided to respond strictly, such as imposing a fine of up to 3 million won for violating this measure.
