A middle sentence was sentenced to a couple in their twenties in the so-called “three brothers and sisters in Wonju” case, who abused three young children and killed two while living in a motel.

Earlier, the first trial court was acquitted of the murder charge, but the appellate court judged it as murder.

Hwang Mo, her husband, died in 2016 at a motel in Wonju, Gangwon-do, where her second daughter, who was 5 months old, was covered with a thick blanket and left for 3 hours.

In June 2019, when a 9-month-old son cried, he pressed his neck with his thumb to die.

His wife, Kwak Mo, helped this out.

The married second daughter and third son were buried together in a mountain.

However, the first trial court found him acquitted of her husband’s murder charges.

Only the concealment of the corpse, illegal receipt of parenting allowance, and child abuse were convicted, and the husband was sentenced to one year in prison, one year in prison and two years in probation.

On appeal, the prosecution changed the complaint by adding not only murder charges but also child abuse and fatal charges, and sentenced husband to 30 years in prison and wife to eight years in prison.

In the aftermath of the case, Jung-in, who was abused and killed by her adoptive parents, increased interest in the case, and as a result, nearly 400 petitions were filed demanding medium punishment for the couple.

The appellate court sentenced her husband Hwang to 23 years in prison and his wife Kwak to six years in prison.

Unlike the judgment of the first trial court, the second trial court decided that the intentionality of the murder was sufficiently proven.

The couple knew in advance that their young children could die if they were left unattended with a heavy blanket weighing 4.3 kg or if the child cried and pressed the neck.

He said that the lives of the victims who were killed by their fathers without living according to their own will cannot be compensated with anything.

A ferocious parent who abused three young children, killed two of them, and even a blacksmith shop.

He denied the charges until the end, saying it wasn’t murder, but in the end, he couldn’t escape the heavy sentence.
