The super-large project’Legendary Stage-Archive K'(hereinafter referred to as’Archive K’), prepared by SBS for the 30th anniversary of its founding, will be broadcast for the first time on the 3rd. ‘Archive K’is a documentary music show that records the history of Korean popular music as a stage and story. It is a program designed based on the reality that there is no clear record of Korean popular music even though it has reached the world level.

Before the first broadcast of Maeil Business Daily Star Today, through an interview with CP Kim Young-wook, who was in charge of planning and directing, we answered questions about’Archive K’.

CP Kim Young-wook said, “I played the music program’Fantastic Duo’ for about two years. There were a lot of legendary singers on the program, and composer Il-sang Yun said,’I don’t know when my seniors will go, but why aren’t our musicians recording those things?’ I was just saying it was at a drinking party, but after that, it was made into a plan, so I was in charge of directing.”

“I started studying because there was a need to make a meaningful program for the 30th anniversary of SBS. I have searched a lot of thesis and read 100 books. I wanted to tell the stories hidden behind songs that the people know well. He said, “If you know how the song was made and what story it consists of, you will have the know-how to listen to popular songs more deliciously.”

‘Archive K’divides the history of Korean popular music into 7 themes, including ballad, dance music, indie ground, K-pop, Hakjeon, Dong-A Planning, and Moon Night. CP Kim said, “It is regrettable that there are many parts that have not yet been included, such as rock, folk, and trot. However, popular songs that have meaning within a popular culture are spread across generations. In the case of Lula’s’Angel Lost Wings’, the members of WikiMiki also sang along and knew the choreography. It will not be difficult to build a consensus because it is a big story shared in our culture.”

The production crew of’Archive K’met 205 Korean popular music players over the past two years. The interviews taken in person and recorded as videos totaled over 15,000 minutes. CP Kim said, “All the musicians I met said,’It’s our job, and we’re grateful that we did it for us.’ When I heard the words that I felt most comfortable with, Hyun Jin-young gave an interview and said,’I am not in vain. It’s when I said, “I lived what I did.”

Among the numerous musicians, singer Kim Min-ki was selected as the most memorable artist. CP Kim said, “I am very grateful to all the people who appeared in my memory. Still, having a drink with Kim Min-ki, a living and breathing older brother in the popular music industry, is significant. I think it will be remembered as a heirloom moment in my life.”

On the other hand, the late Shin Hae-cheol was selected as an artist who was regretful that he could not meet. CP Kim said, “The person I remember through interviews with people around me was so great. However, it was very pitiful that he could not interview Shin Hae-cheol directly and only listen to the stories of the people around him.”

The MC of’Archive K’is played by ballad singer Seong Si-kyung. CP Kim said, “The age of Sung Si-kyung’s musical career was just the middle generation. Seong Si-kyung is an intelligent person who tells the story well without feeling hard. So I invited you, but I am very satisfied. When viewers watch the broadcast, they will feel that Seong Si-kyung is the best MC for this program.”

At the same time, CP Kim said, “There have been a lot of music programs so far, but if what we’ve seen so far is’Mokbang’, this is a program like’recipe’.

For example, if you don’t know why the name of Ohhyangjangyuk is, you can eat it deliciously. However, if you know the origin of the name, listen to and eat Gotham, you will feel different from when you eat it without knowing it. People listen to popular songs more deliciously, and if it helps even as little fingernails, it would be very rewarding.”

‘Archive K’, organized as a 10-part series, will be broadcast for the first time at 11:05 pm on the 3rd.
