[IT비즈뉴스 김소현 기자] Intel announced at the board meeting held on the 13th (US time) that it will appoint Pat Gelsinger as the new CEO.
Pat Gelsinger is scheduled to take office on the 15th of next month and will be part of the Intel board of directors. CEO Bob Swan will serve as CEO until February 15th.
Pat Gelsinger is an industry veteran with more than 40 years of technical and executive experience, including 30 years at Intel, his first job.
As the CEO of VMware since 2012, he has grown the company to be a recognized leader in cloud infrastructure, enterprise mobility, and cybersecurity, which has tripled annual sales.
Prior to joining VMware, he served as President and COO of EMC Information Infrastructure Products at EMC.
Independent Chairman of Intel’s Board of Directors Omar Lee Si-rak said, “I am confident that Pat Gelsinger, along with other executives, will strongly implement Intel’s strategy to build product leadership and take advantage of important opportunities in the future.”
