In Busan, it was confirmed that two foreigners were infected with the COVID-19 mutant virus. All of them have been treated now, and it was investigated that they did not cause further infection in the surrounding area. However, as mutant viruses are known to be quite infectious, concerns about the spread of mutant virus infections in communities are growing.

According to the city of Busan on the 4th, genome tests of a British woman who entered the country from the UK on December 14 last year and a Russian resident in Dong-gu, confirmed on the 13th of last month, recently confirmed that they were infected with a mutant virus from the UK. Genome testing for mutant viruses is mainly conducted by foreign immigrants and those with high suspicion, and it usually takes more than two weeks for the results to come out.

In the case of Russians residing in Dong-gu, the route of infection was unclear at the time of diagnosis, so the city requested a genome test from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This confirmed person was discharged on the 25th of last month, 12 days after receiving treatment. Two people who came into contact with this patient had negative corona diagnostic tests. Currently, the quarantine authorities are investigating the relationship with the’Gyeongnam-Jeonnam foreign relative group outbreak’.

British women were also self-quarantined after entering the country, and there was no further infection in the surroundings. An official from the city of Busan said, “Russian confirmed cases were infected between acquaintances, and British confirmed cases were infected overseas, but all were discharged from the hospital.”
