On the 28th, the Committee for Recommendation of Candidate for Deputy Chief of the Office of Crime Investigation for High-ranking Public Officials finally recommended Kim Jin-wook (54, 21st Judicial Research and Training Institute) senior researcher of the Constitutional Court and Lee Kun-ri (57/16), vice-chairman of the National Rights Commission as candidates for the Minister of Public Service.

The Candidate Recommendation Committee of the Minister of Public Transport held a sixth meeting from 2 pm on the same day and decided to select two candidates who received 5 votes out of 7 after voting on the existing candidates.

It has been 166 days since the law went into effect on July 15 and about two months since the recommendation committee was launched on October 30.

Both Researcher Kim and Vice Chairman Lee are recommended by the Korean Bar Association.

While the opposition party’s recommendation committee members, Lee Heon Lee and Professor Han Seok-hoon of Sungkyunkwan University, were sent out, the resolution proceeded. According to the revised Airlift Act, a quorum was established even with the approval of the remaining five nominating members. The recommendation committee explained that “Han Seok-hoon insisted that he would exercise the authority to present additional judges and request data, but this argument was not accepted since the last meeting decided to allow additional recommendations until 18:00 on the 23rd.”

Attorney Jeon Hyun-jung (recommended by the Ministry of Justice), who received five votes at the last meeting and was selected as a leading candidate along with Kim Researcher, was not selected by the recommendation committee at this meeting.

If President Moon Jae-in nominates one of them as the deputy candidate, he will be appointed as the head of the airlift after a personnel hearing of the National Assembly. President Moon is expected to appoint the head of the airlift this week. The candidate becomes the first vice president of airlift after a personnel hearing of the National Assembly and the appointment of President Moon.
