The Ministry of Environment announced on the 7th that it will provide a total of 30.3 billion won this year for the construction of a smart ecological factory that converts manufacturing factories with a large proportion of pollutant sources into eco-friendly and low-carbon manufacturing plants.

The establishment of a smart ecological factory is to establish a leading model of an eco-friendly manufacturing factory by supporting comprehensive facility improvement such as reduction of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions, resource and energy efficiency, and introduction of smart facilities as part of the green industry innovation ecosystem establishment project. Following 11 last year, a total of 100 will be selected and supported over the three years, including 30 this year and 59 next year.

In particular, this year, the’Greenhouse Gas Reduction’ field was newly established to realize ‘2050 carbon neutral’. In addition to reducing pollutant emissions, it plans to support the use of water circulation and reduction of greenhouse gases.

Selected companies can receive funding of up to KRW 1 billion, up to 60% of the investment cost of building eco-friendly and low-carbon facilities. In addition, it is possible to provide additional support in connection with related improvement projects such as facility improvement and smart facilities for efficient production process by supporting the clean factory establishment and support project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the smart factory supply and expansion project by the Small and Medium Venture Business Department.

The Ministry of Environment is planning to select the final 30 companies after receiving applications from the 8th to March 16th for small and medium-sized companies through written evaluation, on-site confirmation, and announcement.
