Japanese media such as the Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the 4th that the Japanese government is adjusting to avoid foreign audiences when the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games are held in July and September this year.

The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the government, the organizing committee, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government have stepped up to reconcile opinions that it will be difficult to accommodate general audiences from abroad.

As the spread of Corona 19 continues, it is judged that allowing large foreign spectators to enter the country could cause public unrest.

Previously, the Japanese government and the organizing committee, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) held a five-party video conference the day before and decided whether to accept overseas spectators during this month.

It is expected that a decision will be made before the start of the Olympic torch relay on the 25th.

An executive of the organizing committee told the Yomiuri Shimbun that “if Japan decides to give up attracting overseas spectators, the IOC and IPC will also respect it.”

The Mainichi Newspaper also reported on the day that the government is tuning in a direction not to receive foreign audiences, and said a remark from a government official saying, “It is impossible to attract foreign audiences at this point.”

The Asahi Shimbun also reported that Japan’s officials say that it is difficult to accommodate overseas audiences when looking at the situation of the Corona 19 infection.

However, Kyodo News Agency reported that Japanese domestic spectators will be allowed to enter the stadium.

In the five-party video conference held the day before, the upper limit of the number of audiences at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games was decided in April.
