Despite all kinds of controversy,’Linger’ (Lineage + Uncle, Lineage enthusiast), the driving force that NCsoft was able to withstand, are turning around. It is because NC is a representative company that has benefited greatly from’probability-type items’, which is controversial for speculation, and recently, it has been engulfed in controversy that it has provided’unfaithful compensation’ to those who were damaged in the game. The company’s stock price also hit a year-round low on the 25th, and the leadership of NC CEO Kim Taek-jin, who was nicknamed’Taek-Jin-i-hyeong’, is taking a hit.
According to IG Works, a big data analysis company that day, the third week of March (15~21), Lineage M had 150,000 unique users and Lineage 2M had 66,000. The first week of January (December 28-January 3) decreased by 30% compared to Lineage M users (214,000), and Lineage 2M (92,000 people) also decreased by 28%. In the third week of March, the total number of games used during the third week of the year was also reported that Lineage M dropped by 34% compared to the beginning of the year and Lineage 2M dropped by 37%.
In the industry, the number of users of’Lineage Brothers’, which has been popular in the industry, has suddenly decreased by about 30% because of the recent boycott. Lineage M, which has been pointed out that it is excessive to induce payments for’probability-type items’, was intensified when the’rollback situation’ broke out in January. Rollback is the sudden turn of the game world a few days back. As users dissatisfied with the in-game update made on January 27th, we decided to roll back on the 31st of the same month, but within these four days, there were no items purchased with a large amount of money. NC announced the compensation plan twice on January 31st and March 22nd, which fueled the controversy by saying that it would give a substantial amount in’game money’ instead of cash.
In addition, as news came that NC made 89% of last year’s total sales (2,145 billion won) only with game items, the Linder-sans were even more angry. NC’s CEO Taek-jin Kim and senior vice president Taek-heon Kim, his younger brother, were paid 18.4 billion won and 4.1 billion won, respectively, for the successful settlement of Lineage 2M.
As a result of this situation, recently there have been some people who boycott the Lineage user community with the slogan’NO NC’. NC’s stock price, which had been on a high-altitude march over 1 million won per share this year, also plummeted 3.21% in one day, closing the market at a year-round minimum of 96,000 won. Samsung Securities lowered the target price of NC from KRW 1.4 million to KRW 1.2 million.
